#675269 McCown clearly is not the answer...

Posted by maryjanewatson on 27 August 2014 - 05:41 PM

Should I pretend that he's a good QB like you're doing?

Honestly? Yes. Or more accurately, you should stop focusing on the negative all the damn time. You are failing at life. The point of being a fan is to have fun. It's totally optional. You do it because it makes you happy. Football is supposed to be looked forward to and enjoyed. There is nothing fun about talking nonstop about why you think things will suck. That's for most of the rest of life. You talk about why work will suck on Monday. About why going to see the in-laws will suck. About why the dentist will suck. THIS is totally optional and should only be undertaken if it makes you happy. Talking about why your team sucks and will fail is not fun. And you know what? Even if you're right, nobody cares. Nobody will say, "Wow, McCown sure sucked but at least we got to enjoy Bootz's insightful prediction!" It will suck, everyone will be miserable, nobody will care that you were "right." Everyone will just temporarily be as miserable as you seem to be all the time. Nobody will thank you for that. In the meantime, until they start instituting a "pay for correct predictions" system, I'd rather be optimistic and wrong than you, period. You are WRONG in every way that matters here.

I'd like to see a timeout section, where people's posting privileges are restricted to only that section for a specified period of time if they lose a bet or a large portion of the community deems that "they mad" and need to cool out.

Everyone else, of course, would be able to still post there to taunt them.

Hit me back for any details and further explanation you need, Mr. Admin.

#738280 Ichabod's Monday Analysis: Week 17

Posted by IchabodCrane84 on 29 December 2014 - 07:55 AM

Ladies and Bucs fans I’ve just completed 10 wonderful seasons of writing up my analysis.  As an article than started more serious than funny… and some may question the funny, I thought I could bring a unique view to the game we had all just experienced.  I admittedly don’t possess knowledge superior to anyone, and have often questioned if I actually had an audience who enjoyed reading what I decided to type.  In fact, foregoing a write up in Week One, I saw there were people that actually cared, and that my friends was quite the compliment.  So I thank anyone who has ever commented, viewed, and read what I had the guts to spew.  Somehow, and especially toward the end of the year when the funny just isn’t funny anymore.  The same morons keep making the same moronic mistakes and the content is running low, everyone still comes together to say great job.  No one argues or insults, and I don’t know why, because sometimes I question my analysis of players, coaching staffs, and overall humor.  Yet everyone only responds with gratitude and thanks, and on a message board that is virtually unheard of.  I look forward to entertaining you next year, whether it be on this message board or on the message board’s homepage.  Thank you all.

  1. Bradley McDougald is one safety Buccaneer fans should commit to memorizing how to spell his name correctly.  If that means forgetting how to spell Sabby Piscitelli so be it.
  2. Mike Evans is sole leader of the Tampa Bay Buccaneer rookie touchdown record.  You’re finally 21 so here’s a toast to this being one of many records you break in oversized logos of pewter and red.
  3. Two 1,000 yard receivers in one season.  For those of you that thought Tim Brown and Bill Schroeder were going to accomplish that.  In your face!
  4. Bobby Rainey doing his best Mike Alstott impression and using his third and forth legs on punt and kickoff returns.
  5. The Bucs had more tips than Hooters waitresses on Friday night.

  1. As the NFL debates whether or not to shorten the preseason the Buccaneers just completed their 20th preseason game of 2014.
  2. Why oh why does Lovie insist on taking Doug Martin out of the game when he’s the hot hand?
  3. 0-8 at home and still the worst video screens in the NFL.  At least the seats are red.
  4. My BAC is higher than the Buccaneers offensive score. (Not really relevant in this game, but couldn’t let a joke go to waste over the off-season)
  5. 6th consecutive game in which we’ve gone 3 and out in the second half.  I know we were trying to lose, but come on man!  Let’s at least make it look decent.
  6. Tavarres King ensuring the Mark Sanchez Butt Fumble doesn’t go uncontested.

Random Things I Noticed:

  1. Kirk Morrison pulling his best Joe Theismann, “When a referee throws a flag it’s never a good thing.”
  2. Drew Brees wants Colston to be a Saint next year.  What are the odds he takes a pay cut to make that happen?

Opponents Streak:

Rams – 12 consecutive away opener losses.  Broken.

Falcons – No sacks, no first quarter touchdowns, Devin Hester one touchdown away from being the leagues all-time return touchdown leader.  Broken.

Steelers – Antonio Brown.  20th game with 5+ catches in a row.  NFL record.  (Hey but here’s a positive one.  First win in Pittsburgh!!!)

Saints – Only team in the NFL without an interception.  Broken.

Raven – Joe Flacco career high in TD passes. Joe Flacco fastest player ever to 5 TD passes in a game. Ravens tie NFL record for most points in First quarter with 28.

Vikings – 6 consecutive wins against Minnesota.  Broken.

Browns – Cleveland has not beaten us since 1995.  Broken.  First receiving touchdown by a Cleveland running back all season (this one’s a little weak).

Falcons – Five game losing streak.  Broken.

Redskins – So close to giving Albert Morris his first 100 yard game in 19 attempts (96 yards).

Bears – I’m guessing on this one, but I’m probably pretty close to being right.  Had the best average starting field position in league history.

Bengals – Six game winning streak.  Broken.

Lions – 9 game losing streak in the month of December: Broken.

Panthers – First time Derek Anderson has defeated a team twice in one season since 2007.

Packers – Surrenders longest run of the season to two separate players in the same game.  First victory in Tampa for Aaron Rodgers.  Packers defense surrenders worst offensive performance in Buccaneer history.

Saints – Ensured Buccaneers lose every home game of the season.

Overall Opinion:

Again, thank you all.  If you’d like to continue to read more about the Buccaneers even though they’re not in the playoffs check out http://www.tbaybucs.com/playoff-elimination-grief/ it’s one of many features on the homepage of this message board, and I’ve already made a cataclysmic mistake in it, so feel free to troll me.  I’ll be reading all and posting when I feel I have something to add to a meaningful conversation this off-season, so here’s to a great 2015, see you then!

Back on the topic of vets we can be proud of, I interviewed a 90 year-old yesterday who had enlisted in the Navy as a 17 year-old the day after Pear Harbor was attacked. Yesterday, he received an honorary high school diploma from his old school in Ohio, because he had never gone back to get it. He was so proud.

#708317 Mark Barron: Traded!

Posted by Chebington on 28 October 2014 - 07:43 PM

Mark Barron  was drafted to shut down the Jimmy Grahams of this world, and when he was put in position to do so, he did outstanding.  Schiano used him perfectly, one of the bright spots of those defenses.  He did amazing when spun down to play in the box and stuff the run, he was used as a nickel linebacker with David to play the short stuff, and he was a dynamo in man coverage against tight ends.  He was awesome at that.  One of the best in the NFL, in my opinion.  He will never be a deep cover man, because he's a hybrid linebacker.  You can't ask him to be that kind of player, because that isn't in his fundamental character.

If Lovie Smith ran a triple option, and Peyton Manning was his quarterback, Lovie would ask him to run his offense.  When Peyton inevitably failed, Lovie would throw up his hands and say "well the boy just ain't good enough to run my scheme" and trade him for peanuts.

This is a prime example of how a coach does not adapt his players to his scheme, or plays to his player's strengths.  Barron was set up for failure.

What a moronic move by this front office.

I wish Barron the best and am disappointed in this franchise today.

#701853 Ichabod's Monday Analysis: Week 6

Posted by IchabodCrane84 on 13 October 2014 - 06:59 AM

You can make the argument that the Bucs played an emotional past two games so of course this was going to be a let down, but the fact of the matter is we have absolutely no idea who this team is supposed to be, and neither does the coaching staff.  Our offense is being run by a guy who has zero NFL experience and is calling plays he hasn’t designed.  Our defense can be scored on by any team at any point during any game.  In fact the Ravens just scored another touchdown as you were reading this.  And our special teams have been ignored, that’s the quickest and most accurate way to describe that group.

  1. We still have the best damn message board in the league!!

  1. Do I still believe in a Bucs vs. Ravens Super Bowl?  Nevermore… Nevermore.
  2. If Lovie wins the coin toss he will defer to the 2nd half so we start with a statement on defense.  That statement being, if you attend the game the walk from your car to the stadium will be longer than the illusion the team actually has a chance to win the game.
  3. Why don’t we just have our offense start drives with 3rd and 10?  It’s going to be that anyway, this way it cuts down on injuries.
  4. Maybe in their quest to find the running game the Bucs should stop looking in the backfield.
  5. It’s hard to make fun of our cornerbacks when I don’t even know their names.
  6. Anthony Collins.  No joke needed.
  7. The Ravens prevent defense is better than our regular defense.
  8. And to think Bright House Networks almost made this their Game of the Week.
  9. Lee Roy Selmon is rolling around in his grave right now, and not just because some grave robber stole his orange socks and let the 2014 defense wear them.

Random Things I Noticed:

  1. Gerald McCoy has a broken hand.  Still helps opponents up with his good one!
  2. Nowadays smartphones can do just about anything.  Yet we still need a giant *** needle thermometer to tell us how hot it is on the field.
  3. The play-by-play commentator Spero Dedes?  I believe called Jerry Rice, Jerry Smith.  Understandable mistake seeing as though Baltimore has more Smiths than the last three phonebooks I’ve tossed in the trash.
  4. Is it just me or is Mike Carey the weirdest looking bald guy I’ve ever seen?  No wonder he wore that white hat for so many years.

Broken.

Raven – Jeez where to start.  Torrey Smith invisible until today.  Ravens 10 points combined in all games in the 1st quarter, against us 28.  Most points in first half.  Joe Flacco career high in touchdown passes.

Overall Opinion:

I can’t defend this team.  I thought it was coming together.  I thought getting Mason Foster back would start shifting these losses to wins.  I was wrong.  Not my fault though, I was basing my assumptions on the philosophy that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were an NFL team.  No one should allow themselves to embarrassed such as we were at home.  Especially since humility of the same caliber was endured 3 weeks ago.  Blame the players, the coaches, or the scheme, it’s all bad, and we’ll probably look great coming out of the bye.
